Meet Dr. Rutherford
Keviene Rutherford was born and raised in Negril, Jamaica to loving parents & three older siblings. He was an ambitious child but did not have the means for higher education. As a result, he worked doggedly for scholarships, grants and loans. At age 21 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Technology, Jamaica. He was promptly recruited by Shell Chemicals in Kingston, Jamaica who patented his work. The significance of his findings forced the chemistry textbooks to be updated accordingly. In 1990, he was recruited to Ontario, Canada where General Motors patented his work which became an ASTM standard.
After 5 years of Canadian winters, he moved to the more familiar sunshine and palm trees of South Florida. Here his interest in medicine was triggered when his three-year-old daughter suffered a life-threatening reaction to pistachios.
Dr. Rutherford was determined to get an engineer’s understanding of what happened to his child. He registered for a double bachelors – microbiology and chemistry – at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. In just three years he completed both degrees with a 4.0 GPA and notable awards.
Dr. Rutherford’s professors and advisors insisted he continue with medicine which led him to Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. He graduated in the top 10% in 2001. His residency was completed at the renowned Cleveland Clinic of South Florida in 2004. Upon finishing he opened a private practice in Sunrise, Florida while concurrently working at 2 local hospitals. For the next 15 years Dr. Rutherford’s career and practice flourished as he worked 16-hour days. He was in his element but a change was inevitable.
In 2019, Dr. Rutherford settled into the mild climate and lush greenery of Atlanta’s suburbs, to be equidistant to his adult children. He purchased a new office in Alpharetta, GA and spent the COVID years personally renovating every aspect of the building. With a lower volume of patients, Rutherford Medical Center allowed him to spend more time with patients which meant more time to apply the full battery of his knowledge and experience to their wellness – an ideal scenario for both physician and patient.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Rutherford’s passions include motor vehicles, woodwork, and music. He is happily married with four grown children.
